Diosdado “JR” Matulac does not accept the status quo and applies both his degrees in Architecture and Social Work to bring positive outcomes directly to the students, families and businesses of District 2.

As a City Councilmember, my goal is to improve the Vallejo narrative, promoting all the good that is actually happening here. We must not accept the status quo. I will apply my proven Institutional Knowledge of government and community engagement. Bringing all voices together, advancing Economic Development, increasing Public Safety and improving our Infrastructure. I will bring much-needed Services, Programs & Resources to District 2 and all of Vallejo in Leading Vallejo’s Future Now.

I immigrated with my parents from the Philippines and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. I’ve been a Vallejo resident for 27 years, raising 2 children who graduated from the Vallejo public school system. I emphasized education, hard work and building relationships are the keys to success.

With more than 25 years working in the architectural, master planning, engineering and construction fields, I was appointed by the Vallejo City Council to the Planning Commission in 2015 where I have been twice selected by my fellow Planning Commissioners to be the Chairperson where I garnered my Institutional Knowledge. I took a leadership and coordination role in Vallejo’s Participatory Budget Steering Committee in 2016-2017.

I have raised my family in Vallejo. Known to students and parents as “Mr. M”, I utilize my social work degree in working as a social work advocate in my role as an Academic Support Provider for the Vallejo City Unified School District in District 2. In fact, the vast majority of my family work for the school district, directly supporting our District 2 families and community. My decades of volunteering began as a parent in VCUSD in such roles as President of School Site Councils (SSC), Parent Teacher Organizations (PTO), Parent Teacher Associations (PTA), Chairing the District Advisory Council (DAC)/District English Learners Advisory Committee (DELAC) and being on VCUSD’s Audit Committee.

I am an active leader in our diverse Vallejo community attending City Council meetings, attending community forums and Police Oversight Meetings (POM). I am a board member for the Filipino Community of Solano County, a Sir Knight in the Mark G. Thompson Assembly 2584, a Knights of Columbus Council 874 member and past Officer where we helped serve breakfast at the Christian Help Center every first Saturday of the month, street cleaning along Florida street and many other community volunteering activities.
